The title of the play derives from the time, 4:48 a.m., when Kane, in her depressed state, often woke. The
play deals with experiences of psychiatric hospitalization and clinical depression.

2019 | Berlin | Nancy Görlach Role: Jessie, Lead'night, Mother is a powerful and emotionally intense play written by Marsha Norman that won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It tells the story of a single evening's conversation between the mother Thelma and her daughter Jessie, who calmly announces at the beginning of the play that she plans to commit suicide that night.
